Here, a microscopic view of a section of an ovary magnified 20 times shows the cross-sections of individual eggs. Immature eggs are small and dark, eventually becoming bigger and lighter as they mature.

A large gator made quite a splash and possibly a meal of one of these guys shortly after I took this shot, but I was too slow with the camera to make the capture. Guess I need to work on my single lens reflexes. Florida Botanical Gardens, Largo.
