Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing – Fort Belvoir and Quantico Program welcomed Warriors, guides, guests and hosts to a good time and lots of camaraderie Sat. Oct. 27, in Lexington, Virginia. The event was hosted by the Skyline Chapter of Trout Unlimited and Mike Smith. This was the second annual fall event held on the private property of Mike and Nancy Smith.

A total of 12 Warriors attended from several local Project Healing Waters programs: Fort Belvoir, Quantico, Richmond, and Martinsburg (WV).

Many fished the private stocked trout pond while others ventured to Buffalo Creek and Murray River. Everyone got on fish. There were rainbow and brown trout at the pond; brown trout at Buffalo Creek; and small mouth, crappie and sunfish at Murray River. Everyone got on fish!!

Cadets from the Virginia Military Institute’s Fly Fishing Club provided support, equipment, and wet their lines in the trout pond along with the Warriors and guides.

The Skyline Chapter of Trout Unlimited provided a fantastic lunch of grilled steak, hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, beans, soda, water and fresh baked cookies.

Saturday’s weather was great for this time of year in Virginia…just before Hurricane Sandy came ashore.

Every Christmas day my in-laws have Christmas dinner and the main course is fish (crappie). it is a big hit with eyeryone since it is a nice change from the traditional turkey and ham.
Plus it makes for a good excuse to go fishing all year long! We have to provide for Christmas dinner!
